Decentralization, Decarbonization, and Digitalization: The three D’s of energy transition

There is a general consensus across the energy industry that there are fundamentally three pillars when we think of energy transition: Decentralization, Decarbonization, and Digitalization.

Here is one examples for each one of the D’s and what’s next:

Decarbonization

New cost competitive renewable resources have led the U.S. renewable energy consumption to surpass coal in 2020.

Decentralization

Rooftop solar, EVs and energy storage are driving the rise of a $100B dollar market around Distributed Energy Resources (DER).

Digitalization

Smart technology and AI enable further integration of clean energy, but with investments down by 7% more efforts are needed.

What’s next?

Hydrogen and other “Power-to-X” fuels are enabling decarbonization in other sectors, such as marine and aviation.
